Windows 11 26H2 ISO Images Are Now Available

Windows 11 26H2 ISO images are now available to download directly from MS’s official portal. This is MS’s annual feature update for 2026, with 26H2 referring to the second half of 2026.
PCs already running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 receive 26H2 through a small enablement package. However, the downloadable ISO remains a complete Windows installation image.
According to a MS document reviewed by Windows Latest, the final code is “built, packaged, and shipped through various media types,” including ISO images and feature update packages delivered through Windows Update.
The Windows 11 26H2 ISO file is approximately 7.9GB, roughly the same size as last year’s feature update. Compared with Windows 10, however, it is nearly 40% larger because bundled AI models increase its size. The ISO is available in 64-bit format, with no 32-bit version. A separate version is available for Arm-based PCs.
To download the Windows 11 version 26H2 ISO, use the Media Creation Tool or generate direct download links. You can then install the operating system or upgrade an existing device.
Windows 11 ISOs are refreshed with monthly cumulative updates, so the latest file includes the September 2026 Patch Tuesday update. This also makes these ISOs suitable for clean installations.
Directly Download Windows 11 26H2 ISO Files from MS
Windows Latest has provided official MS download links for the Windows 11 26H2 ISO files. Select the appropriate link to begin the download immediately.
The x64 ISO is a multi-edition image covering Home, Pro, and other consumer editions. Your product key or digital license determines which edition is installed and activated.
MS provides a separate download page for Arm64 media. If you have a Snapdragon X-series laptop, download the Arm64 ISO because MS’s Media Creation Tool cannot create installation media for Arm-based PCs.
MS states that generated links are “valid for 24 hours from the time of creation.” If a MS ISO link later stops working, the ISO has not necessarily been removed; the link has probably expired. Windows Latest will refresh its links regularly.
Ensure that your PC does not enter sleep mode during the download, as doing so may pause it. Network disruptions may have the same effect.
Verify the ISO’s SHA-256 Hash
If you obtained the ISO from anywhere other than MS, or simply want additional assurance, verify its SHA-256 hash. Open PowerShell and run the following command, replacing the path with the ISO file’s location:
Get-FileHash "C:\Users\username\Downloads\Windows11_Client_x64_en-us 26300 9457.iso"
PowerShell generates a SHA-256 value that you can compare with the hash published by MS for the downloaded language and architecture, or with the accompanying screenshot.
If the values do not match, delete the file and download it from an official source. A corrupted or tampered ISO should never be used to create a bootable USB drive.
How to Download the Windows 11 26H2 ISO in Any Available Language

MS recommends selecting the language you intend to use during installation. You can check your current language under Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
Each language has a dedicated ISO, so you do not need to install a language pack after setup. Choose the x64 ISO for Intel and AMD PCs. Arm-based PCs should use MS’s separate Arm64 download page.
Why You Should Keep a Windows 11 ISO
A Windows ISO can be almost as important as a backup, particularly when a PC fails. MS states that installation media can be used to install a new copy of Windows, perform a clean installation, or reinstall Windows. There are four practical reasons to keep one available.

Important: An ISO is not a backup of your personal files. It is a copy of Windows installation media and contains none of your photos, documents, or installed apps. Keep regular file backups on a separate drive or in the cloud.
How to Install Windows 11 26H2 Using an ISO
Upgrade an Existing Windows Installation Without Losing Data

MS’s reinstall guide confirms that Windows Setup allows you to keep personal files and apps, keep personal files only, or keep nothing. Your PC will restart several times during the upgrade.

If your PC already runs Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2, you do not need the ISO to obtain 26H2. Windows Update uses a small enablement package because these versions share the same servicing branch. As previously reported, the Windows 11 26H2 package is only 174KB, equivalent to 0.003% of the size of 24H2. MS’s Release Preview announcement confirms that 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2 “use a shared servicing branch.”

An in-place upgrade from the ISO rewrites Windows system files while preserving your apps and data. This can be useful when the operating system is malfunctioning or Windows Update is failing.
Clean-Install Windows 11 26H2 Using an ISO
You can mount an ISO directly in File Explorer and reinstall Windows. If you prefer to use a USB drive, ensure that it has at least 16GB of free space.
Back up all important data before proceeding. Deleting partitions during setup permanently erases the data stored on them, and the action cannot be undone.
You do not need a new license for a clean installation. MS states that a product key is not required for digital licenses. If a key is embedded in the PC’s firmware and matches the edition being installed, Windows applies it automatically.
A PC previously activated with a digital license will usually reactivate after connecting to the internet, provided that you install the edition licensed for that device.
Clean-Install Windows 11 26H2 Using the Media Creation Tool
If you want MS to create the bootable USB drive, the Media Creation Tool simplifies the process.
MS requires a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. All existing content on the drive will be deleted. The tool can also save an ISO instead of creating a USB installer, which is useful for virtual machines or burning a DVD.
The Media Creation Tool “can only create media for x64 processors.” If you have an Arm-based PC, use the Arm64 ISO instead.
After creating the USB drive, boot from it and follow the clean-installation process described in the previous section.
What to Expect During Windows 11 26H2 Installation
After installation, Windows 11 guides you through the out-of-box experience.
The screens may vary according to the Windows edition, device, and MS’s current OOBE testing. As previously reported, the Windows 11 OOBE process can be lengthy and cluttered, so expect some advertisements and promotional cards.
Installation time depends heavily on your PC, SSD speed, USB drive, and whether Setup needs to download additional updates. On a modern NVMe-based PC, the process may take between 20 and 45 minutes.
Windows 11 26H2 Is Primarily a Version and Servicing Change
Windows 11 26H2 is not a traditional feature update. MS states that many of its features “might already be familiar, as they have been gradually introduced through monthly updates.”
Hands-on testing of the Release Preview build confirmed this. The test PC moved to Build 26300 after installing 26H2, but the three largest consumer features did not appear automatically because MS still controls them through Controlled Feature Rollout.
The Windows 11 September 2026 update delivered major anticipated features, including the movable taskbar and customizable Start menu. These features, or at least their underlying code, are included in 26H2.
The features delivered with the ISO are not exclusive to Windows 11 26H2.
Movable and Resizable Taskbar
Five years after Windows 11 removed it, the movable taskbar has returned. Under Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors > Taskbar position, you can select Left, Top, Right, or Bottom. Tooltips, flyouts, and animations follow the taskbar to its selected position.

You can also set the taskbar size to Small, reducing both icon size and taskbar height. However, the search box and small taskbar are available only when the taskbar is positioned at the top or bottom. A vertical taskbar removes both options.

These changes were also delivered to Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 through the September 2026 update, so a fully updated 25H2 PC receives them as well.
Customizable Start Menu
The new Start menu released to all users in July could occupy a large portion of the screen on smaller laptops. Settings > Personalization > Start now includes Automatic, Small, and Large size options, allowing you to reduce its size whenever necessary.

The Pinned, Recent, and All sections can be managed independently. Recommended has been renamed Recent, and you can hide your account name and profile picture.

Cleaner and Faster Windows Search
MS simplified Windows Search in July after years of MSN tiles and trivia. It later introduced a faster, Bing-free Search experience with a new option under Settings > Privacy & security > Search that allows you to disable web and MS Store suggestions.

The Search home page is cleaner, and results now identify whether an item is an app, setting, file, web result, or MS Store suggestion. Windows can also index your most-used folders automatically, while Search provides better support for misspellings and partial words.

Changes for Managed Business Devices
When MS first detailed 26H2, it stated that the release enables experiences that were not previously active by default on business devices. For commercial customers, these include Windows settings backup and app-specific taskbar actions. Windows settings backup was previously called Windows Backup for Organizations.
Point-in-time restore, which returns a PC to an earlier state using local restore points, is also enabled by default for Enterprise and Education devices, as well as organization-managed Pro PCs with an operating system volume of at least 200GB. These are default settings for managed PCs rather than new consumer features.
Windows 11 26H2 Is Not a Major New Windows Release
Installing 26H2 moves the build number from 26100 on 24H2 or 26200 on 25H2 to 26300, while also starting a new servicing lifecycle. Windows 11 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2 all share the Germanium servicing branch, and most consumer-facing features arrived first through monthly updates.
This shared servicing model also explains why testing did not reveal any newly activated features after the version number changed.
The servicing lifecycle is the primary reason 26H2 exists. Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro stop receiving updates on October 13, 2026. Windows 11 26H2 is expected to receive support until October 2028 for Home and Pro, and until October 2029 for Enterprise and Education.
How Windows 11 26H2 Differs from 25H2
Windows 11 25H2 and 26H2 both use the enablement-package model. Version 26H2 continues MS’s shared-servicing strategy based on the 24H2 codebase. The x64 enablement package is approximately 174KB.
This small package allows Windows Update to move an existing 24H2 or 25H2 PC to 26H2 with a single restart. The ISO remains several gigabytes because a clean installation must contain the complete operating system.
If you still require the previous version, the Windows 11 25H2 ISO guide remains available. PCs running Windows 11 26H1, which shipped only on selected new Arm devices, will not be offered 26H2 because 26H1 is based on a newer platform.
Windows 11 26H2 System Requirements
Windows 11 26H2 introduces no new hardware requirements. MS’s existing Windows 11 specifications continue to apply.
You do not need a Copilot+ PC or a 40-TOPS NPU to install 26H2, although certain AI features have specific hardware requirements.
Who Should Download the Windows 11 26H2 ISO?
The Windows 11 26H2 ISO is intended for users who want to install or reinstall the operating system, perform a clean installation, upgrade an existing device, or create installation media.
You probably do not need the ISO if your PC already runs Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2, has a stable internet connection, and uses Windows Update to obtain the latest version.
