Naughty Dog’s Next Project After Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann has addressed speculation about the studio’s upcoming title—specifically whether it will be The Last of Us 3 or Uncharted 5—following the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Intergalactic Sequel Possibility and Strategic Timing

In an interview with Variety, Druckmann expressed optimism about Intergalactic’s success, stating he is “hopeful that Intergalactic succeeds” and that, if it becomes a hit, “you will see it again”—potentially in the form of a sequel. However, he declined to confirm whether Intergalactic 2 would be Naughty Dog’s immediate next project, saying, “I leave that door open.”

Team-Centric Development Philosophy

Druckmann emphasized that the studio will take time to assess the team’s readiness and morale once Intergalactic is complete before selecting the next endeavor. “We have some other ideas that we’d like to explore as well,” he noted.

He reaffirmed Naughty Dog’s core creative principle: its strongest work emerges when the entire team unites behind a singular vision—not out of obligation to continue a franchise. As a case in point, after finishing The Last of Us Part II, the studio spent an extended period evaluating concepts for a potential third installment. “We had a really long period where we looked at ideas for maybe what could be in that game,” Druckmann recalled.

Franchise Evaluation and Creative Prioritization

Following The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog also reviewed its owned IP portfolio—including Uncharted and Jak and Daxter. Ultimately, the team chose Intergalactic because “that’s where our passions lie.”

Clues on The Last of Us 3 and Uncharted 5

While Druckmann has previously offered subtle hints suggesting The Last of Us 3 remains a possibility, he has not confirmed its development. Regarding Uncharted, Naughty Dog has stated that although it may not develop Uncharted 5 itself, it would support another studio taking on the franchise.

Release Timeline for Intergalactic

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is currently in development but has no announced release date. A report earlier this year indicated a launch is unlikely before 2027.
