What’s New in Windows 10 Build 19045.7291?
The May 2026 Update introduces several key features and improvements, including:
- Secure Boot Certificate Updates: Microsoft is rolling out new Secure Boot certificates through a controlled, phased approach. Devices will only receive these certificates after meeting specific criteria to ensure update stability. This is crucial as older certificates will expire in June 2026.
- Secure Boot Status in Windows Security App: Secure Boot status is now dynamically reported within the Windows Security app. Navigate to Device Security and scroll down to the Secure Boot section to view the current status.
The Secure Boot status is displayed using the following icons:
- Green Icon: Indicates Secure Boot is up-to-date, and no action is required.
- Yellow Icon: Suggests that the device couldn’t receive automated Secure Boot certificates, likely due to hardware or firmware issues. Users are advised to contact their OEM in this case.
- Red Icon: Signals that the device cannot receive required updates for Secure Boot. Users must accept the risks or take corrective actions.
It is worth noting that issues with Secure Boot updates are not uncommon. Windows Latest has found that thousands of PCs experience Secure Boot update failures, often due to long-standing firmware shortcomings. Many OEMs, especially for budget devices, provide inadequate firmware support, making Secure Boot failures a systemic issue.
Other Fixes and Improvements
- Remote Desktop Visual Bug Fix: Resolved an issue where the Remote Desktop Connection security warning dialog would appear distorted on multi-monitor setups with differing display scaling settings. This bug was introduced in the April 2026 update (KB5082200) and is now fixed.
- Time Zone Adjustment for Egypt: Updated the system to reflect the Arab Republic of Egypt's Daylight Saving Time change order from 2023.
Known Issues with Windows 10 KB5087544
Microsoft has acknowledged a notable issue affecting enterprise users. Devices with an outdated BitLocker Group Policy configuration may prompt users to enter the BitLocker recovery key during the first restart after installing this update. This issue arises under specific conditions and is a one-time occurrence. Subsequent restarts will not trigger the recovery prompt.
To avoid this issue, IT administrators can temporarily set the "Configure TPM platform validation profile for native UEFI firmware configurations" policy to "Not Configured" before deploying the update.
Servicing Stack Updates and Deployment
As part of standard practice, Microsoft has bundled the latest Servicing Stack Update (SSU KB5084130, version 19041.7183) with this cumulative update. This SSU enhances the logic used to verify whether a device is hosted on Azure. It uses an updated certificate chain for validation, ensuring Azure-hosted devices can successfully download and install future certificate updates.
What About Windows 11?
If you’ve already upgraded to Windows 11, Microsoft has also released a significant update for newer devices. This update introduces new features such as a full-screen Xbox Mode, fixes for dark mode visual glitches in File Explorer, and notable performance optimizations.
