James Spader Talks About Ultron's Post-Defeat Life in VisionQuest

James Spader, returning as Ultron in the upcoming series VisionQuest, shares insights into how the villain has been engaging in surprisingly ordinary activities since his defeat in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"He's had access to the internet, television, history, and he’s just been consuming... and he’s been painting," Spader told Rotten Tomatoes during a discussion with co-star Paul Bettany. "[Ultron and Vision] have a kind of father-son-therapist-psychopath relationship."

Ultron’s Connection to Vision

Despite being physically destroyed by Vision in the past, Ultron continues to play a significant role in Vision's existence. As Vision's creator (or "peepaw," as Ultron humorously calls himself in the trailer), Ultron maintains a lingering presence in Vision's mind. After the events of WandaVision, the magical version of Vision has vanished, leaving behind a reconstructed, colorless version devoid of memories of Wanda or his previous life.

The new series delves into Vision's struggle with his identity while inexplicably allowing Ultron into his home. In what can only be described as an unconventional family reunion, the series promises a captivating dynamic between the two characters.

"He lives in this kind of amazing prison loft, and I go to him for advice," Bettany shared. "He's just been locked up for... by now it would be 14 years or so."
