Team Asano Launches Fan Poll on Potential Square Enix Remakes
Team Asano—the Square Enix division behind acclaimed JRPGs including Bravely Default, Dragon Quest, and Octopath Traveler—has invited fans to weigh in on which classic title they’d most like to see remade. Unsurprisingly, Chrono Trigger tops many wishlists.
For me—and for countless others—a full-fledged remake remains long overdue: it’s been 31 years since the original 1995 release. The 2018 PC version, while offering higher resolution, does not qualify as a true remake. Team Asano, having recently spearheaded the HD remakes of the first three Dragon Quest games, is uniquely positioned to deliver exactly that kind of revitalized experience.
A Structured Fan Engagement Initiative
Under the leadership of developer Tomoya Asano, the team has launched an official poll targeting longtime fans—and the questions have ignited serious hopium. As highlighted by ResetEra forum users, one key question asks: “Is there a Square Enix title you would like to see remade in the future?” Respondents are asked to nominate just one title—a reasonable constraint given the depth and breadth of compelling candidates.
The poll then drills deeper with two follow-up questions:
- “In what format would you like it remade?” Options include HD-2D, the stylized “doll look” (as seen in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined), a pixel remaster, or a full remaster.
- “What additional elements would make you more likely to purchase a remake/remaster?” This invites feedback on meaningful enhancements—such as expanded main story content, refined endgame progression, or quality-of-life improvements.
Context and Speculation
The timing adds weight to the speculation: this poll arrives just two months after a Famitsu interview in which Team Asano teased another potential new release slated for 2026. While a Chrono Trigger remake is highly unlikely to launch this year—even if actively under consideration—it’s now more plausible than ever before.
ResetEra commenters have also floated other strong contenders, including Bahamut Lagoon and select Final Fantasy entries.
