Halo Studios Unveils Firefight: Gauntlet — A New Co-op Survival Mode for Halo Infinite
Halo Studios has introduced a new co-op survival mode for Halo Infinite, delivering a meaningful update months after announcing the end of major development for the title—and months before the team shifts focus to Halo: Campaign Evolved. For now, the studio is firmly pushing back against claims that Halo Infinite has entered a state of stagnation.
A Brutally Refined PvE Experience
“Seconds into your first match of Firefight: Gauntlet, you’ll understand the name,” reads a new blog post from the developer. “This deviously difficult PvE mode introduces upgradeable attributes, elimination objectives, and auto-scaled difficulty settings to a boss-filled Firefight experience designed to challenge even the toughest Spartans.”
Roguelike Progression Across Five Interconnected Maps
While Firefight originally launched in Halo Infinite years ago, this new Gauntlet variant stands out with its roguelike elements. Five distinct maps are linked via a central supply area, and between rounds, players can upgrade their Spartans to better withstand increasingly aggressive threats—including raging Brutes and sticky-bomb-kamikaze Grunts.
“Gather ammo and equipment, roll for power weapons, or level up your personal buffs (Speed, Resistance, Regeneration, and Damage) for the onslaught ahead.” Each round culminates in a high-stakes boss fight—already proving formidable for even seasoned players.
Critical Reception: Praise for Difficulty and Design
“Halo Infinite’s new Firefight: Gauntlet mode is really damn fun,” tweeted one popular content creator, calling it “hard as balls but very very very fun” and suggesting it should serve as “a template for a Firefight variant in future Halo titles.”
Even Mint Blitz—a creator known for viral, Master Chief–level in-game stunts—described the mode as “maybe one of the hardest challenges in gaming history,” adding, “Holy hell is this a challenge.”
Community Reaction and In-Game Support Systems
“Rumors of Halo Infinite’s death have been greatly exaggerated,” reads a top-voted reaction on the Halo subreddit.
For players struggling to hold the line against relentless enemy waves, Halo Studios confirms an in-game support mechanic: retrieving an Oddball from the map Harbinger activates mods normally unlocked via Campaign Skulls. Doing so also boosts all four players’ personal scores.
Clarifying Development Priorities
Halo’s lead developers have mocked speculation that the studio is pivoting toward an PvE extraction shooter spin-off inspired by Arc Raiders or Marathon—reaffirming their commitment to evolving the core Halo Infinite experience through focused, high-impact updates like Firefight: Gauntlet.
