Capcom Achieves Record First-Half Software Sales
Capcom is celebrating the highest first-half software unit sales in its 47-year history, led by titles such as Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
It is safe to say that 2026 was a hugely successful year for Capcom, and its next fiscal year is already looking equally promising. During the 2026 calendar year, the developer launched three Game of the Year contenders: Resident Evil Requiem, the ambitious new title Pragmata, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. All three received critical acclaim.
Older Titles Continue to Lead Sales
However, these recent releases do not account for the majority of Capcom’s profits in its current fiscal year. Instead, older games—including Monster Hunter World, a live-service title released in 2018; Resident Evil 2 Remake, released in 2019; and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, released in 2017—occupied the top three positions among the company’s 10 best-selling games during the first half of fiscal year 2027.
Given their popularity and prestige, it is unsurprising that these three titles continue to perform exceptionally well for Capcom nearly a decade after their release. In July, for example, Resident Evil 2 Remake officially surpassed Resident Evil 5 as the franchise’s best-selling game, having sold 19.75 million copies. According to Capcom’s latest public financial report, its sales have since increased by 2.06 million to reach 20.38 million copies.
Monster Hunter World remains the clear leader, with 30.83 million units sold following an increase of 1.17 million. Resident Evil 7 ranks third with 18.87 million units sold, including an increase of 1.47 million.
Capcom’s 10 Best-Selling Games in the First Half of Fiscal Year 2027

- Resident Evil 2 — 20.38 million units sold, up 2.06 million
- Resident Evil 7 — 18.87 million units sold, up 1.47 million
- Resident Evil 4 Remake — 17.5 million units sold, up 3.54 million
- Resident Evil Village — 16.27 million units sold, up 1.33 million
- Resident Evil 3 — 14.93 million units sold, up 1.56 million
- Devil May Cry 5 — 14.78 million units sold, up 1.83 million
- Resident Evil Requiem — 8.51 million units sold, up 1.59 million

Monster Hunter Wilds Is Absent from the Rankings
Notably, the newest entry in the series, Monster Hunter Wilds, does not appear on the list. Meanwhile, its predecessor remains a major commercial force for Capcom, highlighting the relative unpopularity of Wilds following numerous player complaints in the year since its February 2025 launch. This remains the case even after Capcom “permanently” reduced the game’s price.
Digital Sales Dominate Capcom’s Results
According to Capcom’s financial report, these figures represent the company’s highest-ever total and catalog unit sales for a first-half period, with most purchases made digitally.
- 92.4% of sales were digital.
- 57.1% of sales came from PC.
- 35.3% of sales came from consoles.
- 7.6% of sales were physical units.
The digital share represents a slight decline from Capcom’s previously reported figure for the first quarter of 2026, when digital sales accounted for 93.3% of the total.
Film Adaptations and New Franchises Add to Capcom’s Momentum
These results follow the release of Capcom’s two newest film adaptations. Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie became the most profitable film in the franchise’s history, while Street Fighter debuted at number one at the box office during its opening weekend. However, the possibility of a sequel remains uncertain.
Pragmata also performed well for Capcom, with corporate officer Yoshikazu Shimauchi suggesting that its strong sales make a sequel highly likely. Combined with Onimusha: Way of the Sword selling one million copies on its first day, the results make it clear that 2026 has been Capcom’s year. The remaining question is how the company’s games will perform at The Game Awards.
